Cumberland Family Medical Center Expands Regional Hospital Alliances and Obstetric Staff to Improve Access to Women’s Health Care Services in Danville, Kentucky
Danville, KY — Cumberland Family Medical Center (CFMC) announced today that it has entered an agreement with Women’s Hospital at Saint Joseph East, a part of Saint Joseph Health and CommonSpirit, to provide its patients access to high-quality, safe inpatient labor, delivery, and women’s health care services. Further, obstetrician and gynecologist Dr. Elise Garrett will join its staff of women’s health care providers at Women’s Care of the Commonwealth in Danville, Kentucky.
“Our focus has always been — and will always remain — to care for our patients,” said Dr. Eric Loy, CEO of Cumberland Family Medical Center. “When I first spoke with Carmel Jones, president of Saint Joseph Medical Group, our shared priority was quality of care,” Dr. Loy said. “Saint Joseph has the clinical capacity, the experience, and the commitment to safely care for mothers and babies. This will provide CFMC families a Lexington-area option that many have requested.”
Women’s Hospital at Saint Joseph East provides around-the-clock access to obstetric care, Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialists, a Level III birthing center, a 16-bed neonatal intensive care unit, and neonatologists on staff. “We listened to our patients, and they want to receive care in a hospital known for quality — one with the capacity to care for them safely and with the amenities to provide the best possible experience. After hearing their feedback, our goal became clear: to align with hospitals recognized for quality, equipped to provide safe care to women and newborns, and located in areas that are accessible to the greater Danville community,” said Dr. Loy.
CFMC already maintains strong alliances with Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital in Somerset and Frankfort Regional Medical Center in Frankfort. These hospitals also are available choices for CFMC patients who need inpatient acute care, including labor and delivery.
Following Ephraim McDowell’s closure of the Fort Logan labor and delivery unit, demand for labor and delivery services increased across the region. “While we have established affiliations with three regional hospitals, patients may choose any hospital for labor and delivery, and our team will coordinate records and communication to support their preferred location,” explained Dr. Loy.
CFMC initiated the expansion of its women’s health care services in response to the recent changes in access to labor and delivery care in the area. The expansion of services reflects CFMC’s commitment to maintaining uninterrupted access to obstetric and gynecologic care for families in Danville and surrounding communities. “When circumstances outside of our control resulted in local changes for obstetric and gynecologic services for women, we moved quickly to expand our capacity for clinical care in Danville and to ensure quality inpatient hospital care for women and newborn children.”
Expanding Clinical Capacity: Women’s Care of the Commonwealth Welcomes Dr. Elise Garrett
Women’s Care of the Commonwealth is pleased to welcome Dr. Elise Garrett of Saint Joseph Medical Group to its Danville physician team.
Originally from Somerset, Kentucky, Dr. Garrett specializes in obstetric and gynecologic care. Dr. Garrett is excited to expand her women’s health care practice to patients in the Boyle County area. As a provider with Saint Joseph Medical Group, Dr. Garrett is an active member of the medical staff of Women’s Hospital at Saint Joseph East in Lexington, which will strengthen continuity of care from prenatal care through inpatient labor and delivery for patients of Women’s Care of the Commonwealth.
“With growing demand for prenatal services in our region, Dr. Garrett’s arrival could not come at a better time,” said Dr. Loy. “She is highly respected and deeply committed to caring for families in this community.”
Outpatient Women’s Health Services Continue Without Interruption
Women’s Care of the Commonwealth will continue to provide prenatal care, postpartum, and gynecologic care at its Danville-area locations. Patients will continue to have uninterrupted access to prenatal care, routine obstetric visits, gynecologic care, wellness services, and preventive care within the Danville community.
Transportation Support for Families
With recognition that travel outside of Danville may create challenges for some families, CFMC offers free transportation services through its transportation program. Travel vouchers also are available to help offset additional transportation-related expenses when needed.
Commitment to Community
“This is about ensuring that women and newborn children in our community receive safe, accessible, high-quality health care,” said Dr. Loy. “We want to ensure that the women of our community can access specialist care, including obstetric, gynecologic, maternal-fetal medicine, and neonatology care when needed. We are deeply committed to serving Danville and the surrounding communities.”
Patients who have questions regarding their care or who may need assistance with transportation are encouraged to contact Women’s Care of the Commonwealth directly.
