Planning for Pregnancy: When to See an OB/GYN

Posted June 10, 2025
If I am planning on becoming pregnant, when should I see an OB/GYN?

Prior to becoming pregnant it is recommended to schedule a prepregnancy care checkup. This is the first step in planning a healthy pregnancy. This checkup is to identify things which could impact your pregnancy. This is extremely important as the first 8 weeks of pregnancy is the time when major organs develop in a fetus.

If you are planning on becoming pregnant it is recommended to start taking a daily prenatal vitamin and continue taking it throughout the pregnancy. These vitamins contain the daily vitamins and minerals you need before and during your pregnancy including iron and folic acid.
